This week's book is The Snowman, Raymond Briggs. This is a very famous book. There is a translated version book in Korea. Many children said that they have read this book as a translated version. Here is the first part of an animation The Snowman.
This is a story about a boy and a snowman. A boy named James makes a fine snowman. And that night, he sneaks downstairs and meets the snowman. Surprisingly, it moves! He invites the snowman inside his house and also they fly the sky. They have a wonderful night. In the morning, he wakes up and run outside, but the snowman has gone.
Actually my students is two, but one of our mentors had an accident, so I got his two students. Therefore, I had my class with four children in this week. I was worried about that they cannot concentrate on me well, but they followed me very well, without any problem.
At first, we greet each other and talked each other. They seemed to have many things to say; their school life and about the moon whether there is water. They were very talkative so I let them talk for about 5 minutes, and started the class.
The reading was smoothly proceeded. There was no difficult words for them and the length of a book was short, so they liked the book:)
I planned two post-activities. One is just checking whether they remember the new words. We learned get dressed, pile, add and sneak. They remembered well. Especially, when I promised to give two stickers on their sticker board to whom demonstrate the word sneak exactly, they were very active.
The other post-activity was playing with play dough. I made children make snowman, but first, I showed them the whole process of making snowman teaching important words. For example, when I was mixing the two different colors of the dough, I asked them what I was doing. Then they answered "mix". I used this way on learning other words like make a pile, roll, add and etc.
After that, it was their turn to make a snowman. They was cheered up! Though there was a lot of messy, I was glad to see them happy. When I first started the mentoring, it was difficult to proceed the class for me; both preparation of a class and controlling of inattentive children. But now I feel I became a professional teacher whenever I had a great time with them.
